Connecting Skype to Campfire

by @abs

The Sameroom Skype-Campfire integration requires that a special Campfire account be created. This account should join the Campfire room to be connected to a Skype group.

Once that's done, the integration is a two-step process:

  • Step 1: Add your Skype and special Campfire account to Sameroom
  • Step 2: On the Open-a-Tube page, select your Campfire room for Side A and Skype group for Side B *

* Tubes are commutative: A↔B is the same as B↔A

Once the Tube is live, all messages and files between the Campfire room and Skype group will be mirrored in real time.

To manage this Tube, use the Manage Dashboard. To fine-tune how your messages appear on either end of the Tube, or to make the Tube one-directional, configure posting options.

Connecting a Room in HipChat to a Room in Campfire

By @abs

In this post, I’ll show you how to connect a room in HipChat to a room in Campfire.

This will cause all messages and files posted in a HipChat room to be replicated to a room in Campfire, and vice versa—in real time.

Such an integration can be useful for connecting teams that can’t agree on a chat platform, connecting two companies working on the same project, or establishing a real-time communication channel between an agency and a client.

There are two ways of creating the connection: if you have accounts in both HipChat and Campfire teams, you can open a Tube directly. Otherwise, you'll have to use a Portal and send an invitation to the other team.

Option 1: You Have Accounts in Both Teams

Make sure you know which HipChat and Campfire rooms you want connected. If not, created them first. Then:

  • Step 1: Add your HipChat and Campfire accounts to Sameroom;
  • Step 2: Go to the Open-a-Tube page and select the HipChat room for Side A and Campfire room for Side B.

Option 2: Share a Room with Portal

I'm assuming your team uses HipChat and the other team is on Campfire. If the actual situation is reversed, just swap "HipChat" and "Campfire" below.

First, create a HipChat room you want to share. Then:

Now email or Skype the Portal URL to the other team and wait for them to connect (tell them to create a room first, then open URL and select it).

Fine-tuning Things

You have some control over how your messages appear on the other side. To learn more, see our post that explains configuration options.

If you have any questions about Sameroom or connecting HipChat to Campfire, we'll quickly respond to your tweets (from Slack).

Connecting a Channel in Slack to a Room in Campfire

By @abs

In this post, I'll show you how to connect a channel in Slack to a room in Campfire, the vintage team service from 37signals.

Once connected, all messages and files posted in a Slack channel will be copied to a room in Campfire, and vice versa.

There are two ways to get this done: by opening a Tube directly, if you have access to both Slack and Campfire, or sharing a Portal URL with the team on the other side.

Option 1: You Have Access To Both Teams

First, make sure you know which Slack channel and Campfire room you want to connect; create new ones, if needed.

  • Step 1: Add your Slack and Campfire accounts to Sameroom;

  • Step 2: Open a Tube by choosing the Slack channel for Side A and Campfire room for Side B.

You can fine-tune the resulting connection (Tube) on the Manage page. For more info, see Posting Options.

Option 2: You Need To Share Your Room/Channel

If your team (on Slack) trying to establish a connection with a team on Campfire, you can get this accomplished with a Sameroom Portal.

First, make sure you've got a channel in Slack you'd like to share (create one, if negative). Then:

  • Step 1: Select your Slack channel on the Portal page;
  • Step 2: Send (email, Skype) the Portal URL to the Campfire team.

When they accept your invitation and connect, you will see a Tube listed on your Manage page. You can fine-tune this Tube with Posting Options.

If your team is using Campfire and you need to share a room with a team on Slack, the steps are exactly the same, just swap "Slack" and "Campfire" above.

If you have any questions about Sameroom or connecting Slack to Campfire, we hang out on Twitter.
