In this post, I'll show you how to connect a channel in Slack to a room in Campfire, the vintage team service from 37signals.
Once connected, all messages and files posted in a Slack channel will be copied to a room in Campfire, and vice versa.
There are two ways to get this done: by opening a Tube directly, if you have access to both Slack and Campfire, or sharing a Portal URL with the team on the other side.
Option 1: You Have Access To Both Teams
First, make sure you know which Slack channel and Campfire room you want to connect; create new ones, if needed.
You can fine-tune the resulting connection (Tube) on the Manage page. For more info, see Posting Options.
Option 2: You Need To Share Your Room/Channel
If your team (on Slack) trying to establish a connection with a team on Campfire, you can get this accomplished with a Sameroom Portal.
First, make sure you've got a channel in Slack you'd like to share (create one, if negative). Then:
- Step 1: Select your Slack channel on the Portal page;
- Step 2: Send (email, Skype) the Portal URL to the Campfire team.
When they accept your invitation and connect, you will see a Tube listed on your Manage page. You can fine-tune this Tube with Posting Options.
If your team is using Campfire and you need to share a room with a team on Slack, the steps are exactly the same, just swap "Slack" and "Campfire" above.
